eBooks vs. Print Versions

How many of my bookhearts were among the millions who unwrapped Kindles, iPads, Nooks, and other eReaders for the holidays? How many of you contributed to the one million plus eBooks that were sold on Christmas Day? Well, I certainly woke up Christmas morning ready to load my new NOOKcolor with eBooks from my forever growing, never ending wish list.

According to statistics, it seems that I wasn't the only one. USA TODAY reports that eBook versions of the top six books outsold the print versions last week. Of the top 50, 19 had higher eBook sales than print sales.

Nothing is better than turning the physical pages in the print version of a book, but we can't deny that the world has gone digital. Get with it, or get left behind.

  1. I returned all my library books. Apparently, I read faster than I normally would on my iPad. I also have downloaded books using Net Galley and are reading them. Sadly though, I don't want to stop purchasing for my physical library, but I may end up doing so.

  2. I've downloaded two galleys and will begin reading soon. They are like extended library books (with the 60 day expiration). Oddly, I read faster on my NOOKcolor than a physical book. I think because I'm quicker to whip it out and start reading at any waiting moment.

The day I stop purchasing for my physical library is the day I stop reading. As much as I like digital, hopefully it won't get to that point.

  3. As you know I'm Team Nookcolor! I won't be buying actual books or mags for a while. I may purchase a paper copy of a magazine if there are pics that I must have for my style inspiration boards though.

I'm trying to purge & make room in my small apartment. Later this month, I'm donating many of my books to a woman's shelter. I haven't been to a library to check out books in over 12 years. I'll have to try the Net Galley.

  4. Kim, I won't buy any paper mags for a long time either unless it's a collector's edition. The magazine and free 14-day trial on the NOOKcolor for mags is amazeballs!

Donating books to a woman's shelter is a good idea. It's so hard for me to part with anything in my library.
