I'm not a fan of poetry. However, I learned and memorized this poem in middle school for an English assignment. So today, I pay tribute to the late great Langston Hughes.
Dream Deferred
What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
Like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore--
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?
Does it dry up
Like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore--
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?
This reminds me of Mrs. Gibson's english class memories!
ReplyDeleteYes! I made myself memorize this poem so I wouldn't be placed in the Infraction Center. Mrs. Gibson was a motivator in her own little way.
