Series Sunday: A Second Helping

Series Sunday is a new bookish meme hosted by yours truly, Literary Marie of Precision Reviews. I encourage all of my fellow book bloggers and bookhearts to play along.

  • Read an installment of a series.
  • Post a review/recommendation on your blog, FB, Twitter, Goodreads, or Shelfari pages.
  • Share your review/recommendation by posting the link in the comments section below.
  • Include the title, author, and name of the series so that other Series Sunday participants can add the book to their TBR Lists.
A Second Helping: A Blessings NovelMy Series Sunday pick is A Second Helping, the second book in the Blessings series by Beverly Jenkins. Bernadine Brown is the blessing who saved the historic town of Henry Adams, Kansas and placed five foster children in loving homes. But her work isn't done. The beloved town's diner, Dog & Cow, needs a new chef. The school is almost built and ready for occupation. A widowed father comes on board as a teacher, but his bitter young son rebels against the move. Bernadine's cheating ex-husband rolls into town in a limo, schmoozing one of the residents. Meanwhile, Bernadine finally gives in to her attraction to Malachi July. Oh, and did I mention a fugitive 600 pound hog is wanted for murder?

There's a lot going on in this second installment, but it was easy to keep up with the goings on in Henry Adams. More background history is shared about the characters from the first novel, and new characters are introduced. I am hooked! Thank goodness for this second helping of Henry Adams community folks.

I'm not too crazy about the cover, but it depicts a community with helping hands so I'll deal. Don't let the cover fool you though. The story within is worth reading.
