Series Sunday Lit to TV Review: The Lincoln Lawyer & The Fifth Witness

My Series Sunday pick is The Reversal and The Fifth Witness, the third and fourth books in The Lincoln Lawyer series by Michael Connelly. Mickey Haller is back in my rotation and on Netflix!

I will be brief with my review of The Reversal simply because I did not like it. If it were a standalone novel, I would have marked it as DNF. But for series continuity purposes, I struggled through. Maybe because Mickey Haller traded sides to prosecute a high-profile retrial. I like him better as a defense attorney. He left stones unturned playing on the prosecution's side of the fence. So far, The Reversal is the dud of the series.

I was leery of moving on to The Fifth Witness. What if it was wack too? But Season 2 of the Netflix TV series follows the fourth book so I hurriedly read before binge-watching the five (5) available episodes that released on July 6.

Mickey Haller has expanded his law practice again. He is now taking on home foreclosure defense cases. It leads him to defending a client accused of killing the banker trying to take away her home. The defendant is hella annoying and loud (even through the pages I can hear her yelling). Despite the danger Haller encounters while working the case, he presents the best defense of his career.

Seeing The Fifth Witness storyline portrayed on Season 2 of the show made it all the more better. The cast has chemistry and true to the book physical appearances and personality descriptions. I especially like the different vanity license plates on Haller's Lincolns. His relationships with the prosecutors' office and the police department are more apparent onscreen too. Well done!

I cannot wait until August 3rd for more episodes!
